Tiger’s Open Championship Prediction
Will The Open Championship of 2018 be the event that finally gets Tiger Woods back to being a winning golfer? Here’s a look at some odds to consider for the former No.1 player.
According to the latest oddsmakers, Tiger Woods is currently listed with 22/1 odds to win this weekend. Dustin Johnson is the favorite to win, as he is listed with 12/1 odds. Other short odds to win are Justin Rose (16/1), Rickie Fowler (16/1) and Rory McIlroy (18/1). The Open Championship takes place Thursday-Sunday at Carnoustie Golf Links in Carnoustie, Scotland.
3-time champion
Tiger woods has won The Open Championship three times in his career, taking the title in 2006, 2005 and 2000. When it comes to Carnoustie, he finished 12th in 2007, the last time this event was held there. Over a total of 19 appearances in this major, Woods has finished in the top 10 nine times. However, He missed the cut in his last appearance in 2015.
2018 his best in years
Tiger has finally found some consistency in terms of being able to play. Woods has appeared in 11 events this year. This will be his 12th tournament, which is the most he’s played in since 2013. That also happened to be the last time he won a tournament. Woods has earned three top-10 finishes this year, including a runner-up finish at the Valspar Championship. He also finished fourth in his last event, the Quicken Loans National.
Prediction
While Woods has shown some flashes of his old self, his putter has been pretty rough. He still has missed two cuts this year, including the U.S. Open a few weeks ago. Woods also finished 32nd at The Masters, an event that many expected big things from him. When it comes to finishes, Woods is listed at 9/2 to make the top 5. I don’t think that’s a good bet. He is at +195 to crack the top 10. Don’t care for that either. For a top-20 finish, Woods is at -120. His line to make the cut is -400. I don’t love him to make the top-20.
I feel like the cut line is right where I would be most comfortable, but that’s too much to lay down. If Woods can find his putter, I definitely think he can be in the mix. However, he needs a good start. He isn’t quite the mentally dominant golfer her was before and can go on a spiral with some bad luck or a few bad shots. If Woods starts fast, I think he can ride it to a pretty good showing this weekend.
