The PLAYERS Championship Picks

It’s a stacked field on the PGA Tour this week as the best compete in The PLAYERS Championship. Here’s three golfers we like to be among the top contenders.

According to the latest oddsmakers, Rory McIlroy is the favorite this week, as he is listed with 7/1 odds. Other short odds to win are Jon Rahm (12/1), Justin Thomas (16/1) and Bryson DeChambeau (20/1). The 2020 PLAYERS Championship takes place Thursday-Sunday from TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Floria.

Bet on The PLAYERS Championship

1600 Rory McIlroy 5/1

McIlroy continued his strong play last week by finishing fifth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He has now finished in the top five in seven straight events, which is pretty unheard of. McIlroy also has been in the top 10 in 10 of his last 11 tournaments, which includes two wins. McIlroy comes into this weekend as the defending champion and I expect him to make a strong run at a repeat title.

1601 Jon Rahm 12/1

Like McIlroy, Rahm has been playing too well to ignore over a long stretch. He is coming off a third-place finish at the WGC-Mexico Championship in his last outing and he has finished in the top 10 in eight of his last 10 events. During that stretch, he has won twice, finished second three times and third another. Rahm was competitive in this tournament last year, finishing 12th. I expect him to build on that this weekend.

1623 Sergio Garcia 66/1

If you are looking for a nice longshot option, I think Rahm’s fellow countryman, Sergio Garcia, is a great pick. Garcia comes in with very long odds of 66/1 and that is largely due to his age. However, Garcia has won at least one event every year since 2011. He has looked pretty competitive in Europe this year, earning a pair of top-10 finishes while placing no worse than 37th in any of his five tournaments in 2020. Garcia is a former champion of this event. He took the title in 2008 while placing second in 2007 and in 2015. This has just been a good event for a guy that has found ways to remain competitive. I think he has great value with such long odds.
