Tiger stepping away again
LAS VEGAS, NV (TheSpread) – Tiger Woods knows his golf game is pretty ugly right now and he doesn’t want it on display against any time too soon.
Following an early withdrawal from an event two weeks ago, Woods has decided to step away from the game to practice and he says he won’t return until he feels his game is more up to par.
“Right now, I need a lot of work on my game, and to still spend time with the people that are important to me,” Woods said on his website. “My play, and scores, are not acceptable for tournament golf. Like I’ve said, I enter a tournament to compete at the highest level, and when I think I’m ready, I’ll be back.”
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Woods currently has odds of -700 to go the 2015 season without winning a major. His odds to claim a major championship this year have been set at +400. His odds to win the Masters is currently listed at 14/1.
Woods said he hoped to return on Feb. 26 to play in the Honda Classic in his backyard, but he also said he won’t rush himself. He is currently ranked 62nd in the world rankings, his lowest mark since becoming a pro in 1996. Woods last had a top-10 finish at the Northwestern Mutual World Challenge to end the 2013 year. He hasn’t won a major since 2008 and he his last top 10 in a major was the 2013 British Open.
