U.S. Open DFS Predictions
With the U.S. Open set to take place this weekend, now’s your chance to dabble into Daily Fantasy Golf. Here’s our suggested plays for the major this weekend.
The U.S. Open takes place Thursday-Sunday from Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York. In DraftKings Classic Golf format, you are given a team salary of $50,000 and six roster spots to fill. Here’s the team we like.
Dustin Johnson, $11,700: Johnson has been looking really good in recent weeks and is coming off a win last weekend. The 2016 U.S. Open winner has been pretty strong at this major in his career. While he missed the cut last year, he finished in the top 5 from 2014-16. From a fantasy standpoint, he has scored at least 90 points in three straight events.
Henrik Stenson, $8,800: Driving accuracy is important at the U.S. Open and Stenson leads the PGA Tour in that stat right now, hitting 78 percent of the fairways he faces. He also has finished in the top 10 in half of his 2018 events. I think Stenson can be a real nice choice this weekend.
Tommy Fleetwood, $8,100: Fleetwood finished fourth in the U.S. Open last year, and that started a nice calendar year of majors for him. He finished 30th or better in three of the last four majors. Fleetwood has been strong this year, missing just one cut with four top-10 finishes and a win. He has been 26th or better in 10 of the 12 tournaments he’s played in this year.
Emiliano Grillo, $7,100: Grillo ranks 10th in driving accuracy and he is having a strong 2018 season. He has made the cut in all 13 events of 2018 and has been in the top 10 in five of them. The U.S. Open hasn’t been great for him, but he has only played in two and I think he can ride his positive momentum this year to a strong showing.
Russell Henley, $7,100: Henley is a cheap-price option I feel pretty good about. After years of struggling in majors, he has made the cut in six straight and has finished in the top 15 in two of them and the top 30 in four of them. Another accurate driver, Henley has the right game to put up a surprising fantasy total this week.
Steve Stricker, $6,900: Stricker has been steady at the U.S. Open. He has finished 21st or better in his last five appearances in the tournament. He is just a simple, steady player. He puts the ball in the fairway and makes greens in regulation. While he won’t put up a 64, he will be steady around par and work his way into the weekend.
