WGC-Dell Match Play Predictions
The annual WGC-Match Play Championship is set to take place this weekend. Here is a look at the odds to win this year’s tournament.
The field consists of the top 64 players available from the World Golf Rankings. There are 16 groups of four that play a round-robin over the first three days. Each group winner will advance a single-elimination tournament that will play out the rest of the weekend. According to the latest oddsmakers, Rory McIlroy is favored to win the tournament, as he has 9/1 odds. Other short odds to win are Dustin Johnson (11/1), Justin Thomas (14/1) and Jon Rahm (16/1). The WGC-Dell Match Play Championship takes place Wednesday-Sunday from Austin Country Club in Austin, Texas.
Bet on the Match Play Championship
1501 Dustin Johnson 11/1
Consistency is the name of the game this week. A player can’t really have an off day in this event. DJ has been very consistent in 2019, placing in the top 10 in six of his eight tournaments, including two wins. Johnson also won this very event at this very course in 2017. I think he comes in playing very well and has been able to remain steady week-to-week. I like him to have another strong weekend.
1504 Brooks Koepka 20/1
Koepka has been good at getting past the opening stage of this event, as he has qualified in 2016 and 2017. He didn’t play in this event last year, but has been traditionally good in WGC events. Koepka has finished in the top 10 in two events this year. While it hasn’t been his strongest start, I think he is able to be a top contender this weekend in the Match Play tournament.
1509 Tommy Fleetwood 20/1
Fleetwood is a player that has had a great last 12 months. He played very well in all four majors and climbed up the world rankings. He then followed that up with an impressive Ryder Cup to help lead Europe to the win. Right now, Fleetwood is playing quite well as well. He has finished in the top 5 of his last two tournaments and I think he will be very comfortable in the match-play format this weekend.
