Wyndham Championship Betting Prediction
OPTION 1: Justin Thomas (28/1)
The 2017 FedExCup champion has struggled as of late, missing the cut in five of his last seven starts, including in what had potential to be a great opportunity last week at the 3M Open. He’s fallen to 26th in the Official World Golf Ranking, his lowest mark since October 2016.
Thomas could potentially punch his ticket with a minimum of a solo 18th-place finish depending on those around him, but the PGA TOUR projects that it could take as much as a 3-way tie for 4th to get him in. This is based on the TOUR’s projection, which is based on historical trends and data. These numbers are meant as examples and guidelines rather than definitive ways to make the Playoffs.
He has reached the TOUR Championship in each of the last seven seasons, finishing in the Top 10 in each instance. Thomas made his PGA TOUR debut at this event as a 16-year-old in 2009, making the cut and finishing in a tie for 78th. He needs a strong showing this weekend.
OPTION 2: Adam Scott (22/1)
Scott is one of two golfers to have reached the FedExCup Playoffs in every season since their inception in 2007, along with Matt Kuchar (ranked 59th). Scott could get into the Playoffs with a 2-way tie for9th, with the PGA TOUR projecting it would be more likely with a 3-way tie for third. He’s currently 81st in the FedExCup standings, leaving him currently on the outside looking in. He, like Thomas, needs a strong finish.
OPTION 3: Webb Simpson (50/1)
One player in the field this week that could make a resurgence is Simpson. The TOUR veteran has reached the FedExCup Playoffs in 14 straight seasons entering this one, but has seen his play drop off dramatically. He enters the week 169th in the FedExCup standings, needing a win to even give himself a chance to crack the Top-70. The good news: Simpson won this event back in 2011. The better news: Simpson’s scoring average of 66.75 in 51 rounds at Sedgefield Country Club is the 2nd-best by any player to play at least 20 rounds at any course since 2003.
