Are the A’s a good World Series bet?
LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – The Oakland A’s stand as the current favorites to win the World Series at 9/2 odds but are they a good wager for bettors?
The A’s open the second half with the best record in baseball sitting at 59-36. They proved they’re serious about making a World Series runs with the trade acquisitions of pitchers Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel from the Chicago Cubs. Pitcher Scott Kazmir is currently leading the way in Oakland’s starting rotation with an ERA of 2.38. The A’s starting rotation includes three pitchers with ERA’s under 3.00, while the other two are just over 3.00. It’s going to take more than a good starting rotation to get to the World Series, but pitching has also proven to be paramount to teams’ success in the postseason.
It’s not often I go with the favorites, but Oakland is having a great season up to this point and it’s hard to go against them. The MLB season is a long one and at just the halfway point there’s plenty of opportunity for things to shake up. Oakland certainly has the weapons to get it done and I don’t think anyone would be shocked to see the A’s come out as the World Series Champs.
The Los Angeles Angels are currently paying out 11/1 on their odds to win the World Series and they too are worth considering. The Angels currently lead the MLB in runs scored and are just 1.5 games back of the A’s in the AL West. The Angels closed out the first half of the season with a five game winning streak and look to pick up where they left off.
The Los Angeles Dodgers currently sit at the top of the NL West with a record of 54-43 and are currently paying out 5/1 on their odds to win the World Series. The Dodgers are a team filled with good young talent and arguably the best pitcher in baseball in Clayton Kershaw. The Dodgers are a team worth considering coming out of the National League, too.
