2014 NFL Betting Odds: Which team is the most underrated heading into the season?

Most underrated 2014 NFL teams

LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – Who is the most underrated team in the NFL heading into the 2014 regular season? My answer may surprise you.

The Jaguars are by far the most underrated team entering this season. The only thing I don’t like is the fact that the majority of bets have played ‘OVER’ 5 wins and this has led the line to leap to -150 juice. In one of my most recent articles, I had recommended the ‘OVER’ 5 at -130, which is acceptable. Although I am not one to lay heavy wood, I do think there is value with the -150 line and it is unlikely to move to 6 wins.

Marquis Lee and Blake Bortles may end up being the fantasy players’ dream. In studying these elite athletes, they resemble a modern-day Montana-Rice combination that devoured every defense they faced in that 49ers dynasty. I don’t see Chad Henne making it through the difficult start to the season and then Bortles with his laser arm can begin what I believe will be a very long NFL career.

Other teams in the ‘underrated’ category would not complete without the Kansas City Chiefs. They are lined at 8 wins and the public has been betting the ‘under’ and only the ‘under’ on that proposition line. Granted, their schedule is not easy, having to play at Denver and at San Francisco while hosting New England. After their BYE week in Week 6, they will have the Chargers and Raiders twice each, hosting the Jets, and at Buffalo. So, I believe after the tough first five games, the schedule gets far friendlier and nine or more wins is a solid expectation for the Chiefs.

The Carolina Panthers are also on my ‘underrated’ list. They will be playing in the shadows of the Saints, but a line of 8 1/2 wins is very attractive for an ‘over’ wager. It would take major injuries to key personnel for the Panthers not to win 9 games and be at least a Wild Card team this season.
