Will Peyton win another MVP?
LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – Peyton Manning is the current favorite to win the NFL MVP award for the upcoming season but is he the right play for bettors?
Manning is coming off a monster year, throwing for over 5,400 yards and 55 touchdowns as the Broncos offense had a record-breaking season. It’s hard to bet against Manning coming off a year like that, especially as it’s just hard not too root for the guy.
The Broncos will be coming into this season with a Super Bowl-or-bust mentality, and who can blame them after they were routed by the Seahawks? Manning definitely deserves to be the MVP favorite, but there’s just too many factors that will have to fall into place perfectly for him to come away with the MVP. It’s just hard to imagine the Broncos repeating the record breaking season they just had.
Knowing that, let’s take a look at a couple other options for MVP.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers should be out for blood this upcoming season after battling injuries in 2013. Rodgers racked up impressive numbers considering he was limited to just nine games. Rodgers will have a loaded offense to help him along the way including Randall Cobb, Jarrett Boykin and Jordy Nelson. Even though he lost James Jones to the Raiders this offseason, don’t count Rodgers or the Packers out in 2014.
Signal-caller Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints can’t be overlooked as an MVP candidate either. He too is coming off a great season that just happened to be overshadowed by Manning. Brees is running out of opportunities, as he’s not getting any younger, which should lead him to be guns blazing from Week 1. The Saints need big numbers from him to have any aspirations of making a Super Bowl run and you just can’t count Brees out. He may also look to take his passing yards record back from Manning, too.
