Who will win the NFC East?
LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – The NFL regular season is quickly approaching. Let’s take a closer look at who comes out on top in the NFC East.
The odds to win the NFC East are currently set with the Cowboys listed at 4/1, the Eagles at 5/4, the Giants at 3/1, and the Redskins at 15/4. The NFC East has been considered one of the worst divisions in the NFL over the last few years, as I’m sure you’ve heard to it referred as, “NFC Least.” But it could be a battle for the division title. The Eagles have to be considered the front runners to win the division as we head into the season, especially with how potent they looked offensively a year ago and seeing as how they’re the current defending champs.
The Eagles are currently led by quarterback Nick Foles, who is coming off a terrific season where he completed 64% of his passes with a 27:2 touchdown to interception ratio. Foles and the Eagles offense may find things a little tougher this season, however, as teams have had plenty of time to prepare for head coach Chip Kelly’s offense, but I’m sure they have a few adjustments up their sleeves.
The Eagles also lost wide receiver DeSean Jackson, but they added running back Darren Sproles, who should be a solid weapon, plus tight end Zach Ertz is expected to play a bigger role in the offense. The Eagles defense had their share of struggles last season, but they’ve made a few moves to improve their pass rush and secondary. The Eagles have a much tougher schedule this season as they have to battle the Colts, Packers, and the NFC West. Having said all that, as it looks right now I expect the Eagles to still come away with the NFC East.
The team that could overtake the Eagles in the NFC East is the Redskins. Washing has a new coaching staff and a healthy Robert Griffin III to start the season. As previously mentioned, they also acquired Jackson after the Eagles released him and he should help to open things up for Pierre Garcon and tight end Jordan Reed.
New coach Jay Gruden is a former offensive coordinator and could be just what RG3 needs to get his career back on track. The Redskins made improvements to their offensive line and to the defensive side of the ball. The Redskins will need the injury prone Griffin to stay healthy throughout the season, but if he’s able to do so look for the Redskins to come away with the NFC East.
