Will Hawks repeat as West champs?
LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – The Seattle Seahawks are listed as favorites to win the NFC West, but are they the right play for bettors? Let’s take a look.
The defending Super Bowl champions are currently listed around +150 to win the NFC West, but following a Super Bowl season is never easy. The Seahawks are now sporting Super Bowl rings and can no longer think of themselves as underdogs with a chip on their shoulder this season.
There are always several distractions after winning a Super Bowl, as players are catapulted into stardom, notably quarterback Russell Wilson. There’s just such a letdown factor that comes into play after winning the Super Bowl. Seattle’s schedule also is very tough as the NFC West is the best in football, plus there are dates against the Packers and Broncos. The Seahawks will have a solid season, but will fall short of winning the NFC West.
The San Francisco 49ers are currently listed around +200 to win the NFC West and should be hungry to win the division. The 49ers should be highly motivated this season after falling just short of going to the Super Bowl last season. Quarterback Colin Kaepernick had his struggles in the early part of last season, but I expect a strong season from him.
Kaepernick should start out the season with some healthy weapons to throw too. The addition of wide receiver Stevie Johnson should prove to be a nice touch to the offense. The 49ers usually boast one of the top defensive units in the NFL and although may not be as tough this season should at the very least hold their own to keep them in those close games. Look for the 49ers to lead the NFC West this upcoming season.
