It’s been a long year but we have finally made it to the Divisional round of the NFL playoffs. Getting a bye can be a big advantage in the Playoffs but does it translate into making bettors money?
There are times when the bye week works against teams. If they’re red-hot going into the playoffs, sometimes the week off doses cold water on their momentum. Rust is also a factor, but so is rest. Obviously the team coming off a bye week has an extra opportunity to rest their injured players and at this time of year, there isn’t anyone who isn’t banged up.
I wanted to go back to 2003 and see how the numbers break down with sides and totals when a team came off the bye. Here’s what came up:
28-16 straight up 63.6%
19-25 ATS 43.2%
24-20 o/u 54.5 %
As you can see by the above playoff numbers, teams coming off a playoff bye week have covered a money making 63.6%, but you’d have to bet them on the money line because they’re just 19-25 against the spread. Totals of 48 points or more in these situations are 9-3 over, which is 75% and another money making stat.
Take a look at this weeks spreads and see where you too can benefit from this trend. As always, consult Chase Diamond’s plays and gamble from there. Good luck this weekend.
