Do Bills carry value in Week 1?

LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – There is a team being underrated heading into the opening week of the NFL regular season. Let’s take a closer look.

The Buffalo Bills are being underrated heading into Week 1 of the NFL season. Buffalo has been building up their talent for a while now. Quarterback EJ Manuel is in his second year and has tremendous upside, plus look at running back CJ Spiller, who is a top notch option when healthy.  Rookie Sammy Watkins is also looking like he could be a standout for years to come.  The Bills have a strong running game in general with Spiller, Fred Jackson and new additions Bryce Brown and Anthony Dixon.  Watkins should give the Bills a deep ball threat that should open up their run game even more. The Bills are catching six points versus the Bears and I see that as a gift from the oddsmakers.

The Bears finished 30th last season in total defense, allowing over 390 yards per game, plus finishing last in sacks while only forcing 31 on the season.  The team has improved its defense by signing defensive ends Jared Allen, Lamarr Houston, and Willie Young. Those three will have the defense improved but there will still be holes in the  defense. Chicago did put some points on the board last season finishing just behind the Broncos in offense. The Bills have the capability of keeping up with the Bears on opening Sunday.

The oddsmakers have this line set right where they want it as the biggest percentage of wagers are coming in on the Bears right now, but this line isn’t moving. I also look for this to be somewhat of a high scoring affair and to sail over the total currently set at 48.5. Take the Bills plus the points opening Sunday.

I also find solid value on the 49ers only laying 5.5 points versus the Cowboys as they open their season in Dallas. The 49ers had their ups and downs in preseason, but all that goes out the window as teams reset their records to 0-0 at the beginning of the season. The 49ers are just a much stronger team right now and I don’t see the Cowboys hanging around too long in this opener. The public is about 50/50 on this game, but the line has jumped from 4.5 to 5.5 as the oddsmakers are looking to get more money coming in on the Cowboys. Lay the points on the 49ers.
