Chicago Bears vs. New England Patriots 8/18/16 NFL Preseason Picks

Chicago Bears vs. New England Patriots 8/18/16 NFL Preseason Picks Chicago Bears vs. New England Patriots 8/18/16 NFL Preseason Picks

Bears vs. Patriots Free Pick

After getting shut out in their preseason opener, will the Bears rebound tonight when they visit the Patriots in the teams’ second exhibition game?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Patriots are now 3-point home favorites to beat the Bears after the point spread opened at New England -4. The total, meanwhile, sits at 41 points after the number opened at 40.5.

Bet Tonight’s Bears vs. Patriots Game

Tom Brady will appear in tonight’s preseason game, but will only play a series or two after sitting out of the Patriots’ exhibition opener. Bill Belichick and Co. are focused on getting Jimmy Garoppolo ready for the regular season opener. Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman are also expected to sit out of tonight’s matchup with the Bears.

The Bears are banged up defensively. While GM Ryan Pace didn’t seem worried about linebacker Pernell McPhee’s knee injury, he did suggest that cornerback Kyle Fuller’s knee injury could force him to miss significant time. The Chicago Tribune’s Rich Campbell said earlier this week that Fuller is battling to keep his starting job.

OUR PICK: With Gronkowski and Edelman out and Brady only expected to play a series or two, don’t expect much scoring from New England tonight. Plus, with Chicago being shut out by Denver last week, the Bears could struggle offensively again as well. Most preseason totals are set between 34 and 36.5, but with the Patriots and Saints combing for 56 points last week in Foxboro, oddsmakers bumped the over/under up to 40.5 for tonight’s matchup. Take advantage of the gift and take the under.
