College Football Betting: Will Texas A&M cover the spread vs. South Carolina?

Will A&M cover vs. South Carolina?

LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – The 2014 college football season kicks off tonight when No. 21 Texas A&M takes on No. 9 South Carolina. What’s the best play for bettors tonight?

Get Jay Dotson’s Expert Picks

The Aggies finished last season 9-4 while South Carolina went 11-2. The Aggies look to overcome the loss of quarterback Johnny Manziel, while South Carolina has to deal with the loss of defensive end Jadeveon Clowney.  The SEC is going to be a battle this season and catching 10.5 points on the Aggies is very generous. I look for Texas A&M to cover this spread, but for South Carolina to win the game outright.

There’s some history on the side of South Carolina. The Gamecocks have won 18 straight homes, plus they haven’t lost a season opener since head coach Steve Spurrier took over the reins of the team.  South Carolina’s game plan will include a strong run game and ball control with the likes of running back Mike Davis and a veteran offensive line. Texas A&M isn’t known for their defense as they finished 109th in total team defense last season and will definitely have their work cut out for them stopping the Gamecocks’ run game.

Texas A&M should be able to put some points versus the Gamecocks even though sophomore quarterback Kenny Hill will be making his first career start. The Aggies have a lot of talent on the offensive side of the ball including three returning running backs Tra Carson, Brandon Williams, and Trey Williams. The Aggies are also expecting a lot out of true freshmen receiver Speedy Noil. This game should be close if the Aggies stick to their game plan and limit their turnovers. Take the Aggies plus the points.
