Teasers are offered in football and basketball, and they are similar to parlays in that you need both teams to win in order to win that wager. A single loss on any one game makes your bet a losing one.
The difference between a teaser and a parlay is that the teaser is a type of wager where the bettor is allowed to move the point spread in any direction on a particular game. For example, if Detroit is favored by 10 points over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, teaser bettors can move the Lions to -4 if they like the favorite but don’t feel like laying the 10. Or if you like the dog, you tease the Buccaneers to +16.
In basketball teasers, bettors can move the lines to 4, 4.5 or 5 points. They must be a minimum of two teams but could be as many as 10 teams, depending on the sportsbook the wager is placed though. Most sportsbooks tend to limit the number to six.
There are several different teasers available. The most well known is the Super Teaser or Special Teaser, that allows the bettor to wager on three, four and possibly five teams. That can give a larger number of points to add or subtract to the spread for the selections chosen. In return, the bettor will receive less money than the one risked in the bet.
The Vegas Teaser is more of a combination between a parlay and the Super Teaser. The more teams chosen in the wager, the higher the payout will be. The bettor will receive fewer points to adjust the spread of the selection chosen.
In a Progressive Teaser, there is a consolation payout for having an incorrect selection. Once having the minimum amount of correct selections for a payout, each additional correct selection increases the payout odds. Ties are considered incorrect selections on Progressive Teasers.
Only one side or total may be selected on a game. Progressive Teaser selections with a “side to a side”, “side to a total”, or “total to a total” within the same game are not permitted.
You should check with your sportsbook before playing a wager on teasers to make sure you know its rules.
