After a disappointing conclusion to the 2013 regular season, the Lions hope to rebound in 2014-15. Detroit’s most dangerous weapon is the league’s best receiver: Calvin Johnson. Johnson will be the focal point of the Lions offense, which lights up scoreboards when it performs at its best.
The Lions have put together a roster that will serve as an excellent supporting cast to alleviate the pressure Megatron constantly faces. The Lions acquired Seattle slot receiver Golden Tate in the offseason and drafted an athletically gifted tight end in Eric Ebron. Furthermore, Reggie Bush returns to the Lions at full health, with the potential to be a 1,000 yard rusher.
Complementing Bush is arguably the best No. 2 rusher in football: Joique Bell. Conceivably if Detroit’s offensive line can hold their blocks, both runners could be in line for very productive seasons. This same assertion can also be proven true for quarterback Matthew Stafford, who has thrown for over 4,500 yards in his best statistical year with Detroit.
Detroit was in the driver seat of the NFC North in 2013, but seemingly the Lions would continue on to narrowly miss the playoffs. The Lions would finish 7-9 despite a 6-3 start. The outlook for Detroit in 2014, is eerily similar. The Bears are certainly the team to beat in the NFC North and Detroit will not beat them in either occasion. Detroit does not fare well against defensive teams. Johnson will produce no matter who covers him and what type of coverage is inserted to counter him. The supporting cast however, is nebulous in defensive stalemates. For these reasons, Detroit will win seven games or less in 2014.
