Friday’s MLB Betting Tips
LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – There are a couple of pitching advantages on the board Friday night. Let’s take a closer look as to pad your bankroll heading into the weekend.
The first game takes place in Minute Maid Park at 8:10 pm ET between the 12-14 Seattle Mariners and the 9-19 Houston Astros. The Mariners are starting Felix Hernandez, who owns a 3-1 record with a 2.40 ERA on the season, while the Astros are set to start Brad Peacock, who sits at 0-2 with a 5.95 ERA on the season.
This is a glaring pitching advantage for the Mariners. Hernandez and the Mariners took a loss last time out against the Astros, but I look for that to make this play even stronger. Hernandez will be a little extra motivated to bring his “A” game in this one tonight. Hernandez, when looking at the numbers, actually performs better on the road then at home as last season he carried a road record of 7-4 with a 2.63 ERA, and this season he’s 2-0 with a 1.69 ERA. Hernandez also has a history of performing well at Minute Maid Park, where he picked up 2 wins last season.
Peacock, on the other hand, has had his share of struggles this season. The Astros have dropped Peacock’s last 6 starts. Peacock carried an ERA well over 6 last season at home, plus his ERA is over 7 right now at Minute Maid Park. Peacock carried an ERA over 7 versus Seattle last season as well. The public is going to be on Seattle with Hernandez on the mound, but it’s the right play tonight.
The second game we are going to take a look at is the New York Mets versus the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field set to go at 8:40PM ET. The Mets are set to start Zack Wheeler, who is 1-2 with a 3.99 ERA on the season, while De La Rosa, who is 2-3 with a 5.23 ERA on the season, gets the start for the Rockies.
Wheeler is a young, talented pitcher but this is a tough spot. The Mets are having a solid season so far, but facing De La Rosa at Coors Field is a daunting task. De La Rosa had a slow start to the season, but has picked up 2 straight wins, and I like his chances for another here. De La Rosa was a commanding 10-1 with a 2.76 ERA at Coors Field last season. The Mets also ranked towards the bottom of the league Vs LHP. The play here is the Rockies, and you won’t even have to sweat this one.
