Seahawks to win under 11 games?
LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – The Seattle Seahawks’ regular season win total for the upcoming season has been set at 11. Is the right play the over or the under? Let’s take a closer look.
The reigning Super Bowl champion Seahawks look to repeat the success of last season. Seattle put up a monster 13-3 regular season record in 2013. They’ll find it tougher this season as every team will have their game versus Seattle circled on their calendar. I don’t see too many games on Seattle’s schedule this season that I would consider automatic wins. The Hawks open their season on Thursday, September 4 versus the Packers. I look for that early game to come down to the wire as the Packers will look to have a strong season with a healthy Aaron Rodgers. I see six games on their schedule that I would feel comfortable marking down right now as a win, but that leaves 10 games that depending on how the season plays out could go either way.
Seattle’s CenturyLink Field is definitely one of the toughest, if not the toughest, environments to play on for away teams, but I expect teams to adjust and be ready for that type of atmosphere. You would expect the Hawks to bring a similar style of swarming defense to the field this season, but they could potentially run into problems on the offensive side of the ball.
Seattle’s O-line gave up 44 sacks last season, even with a mobile quarterback in Russell Wilson. Center Max Unger and left tackle Russell Okung are both former pro bowlers and return healthy, which could lead to improvement but Seattle lost right tackle Breno Giacomini to the Jets. Second year player Michael Bowie and rookie Justin Britt are expected to battle it out for the right tackle position. Golden Tate won’t be with them this season as he is now a Lion. Tate often came up with big catches and he will definitely be missed. It appears Marshawn Lynch is considering holding out in a contract dispute, which can’t be good.
It’s never easy to reach a double-digit win total in the NFL and it takes a special season. Seattle will have their hands full to come close to pulling off a repeat of last season. The juice is set around -145 on the over 11 and I just don’t like that kind of juice on a wins total. The under 11 is paying out around +115 and I think there is some value there. Take the under and root against the Hawks this season.
