Scherzer trying to end personal skid
Max Scherzer hasn’t won a game since July 30 and has drawn a tough assignment on Wednesday: Avoid a sweep at the hands of the Cardinals.
Scherzer is looking to break a personal three-game losing streak and pick up his first win since July 30 against the Marlins. He’ll face right-hander Michael Wacha when the Nationals visit the Cardinals at 8:15PM ET tonight. Wacha has been outstanding versus Washington, going 2-1 with a 0.79 ERA in three career starts versus the Nats. He also carried a no-hitter into the ninth against Washington at Busch Stadium on September 24, 2013 before it was broken up by a two-out infield single.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Cardinals are -125 money line favorites versus the Nationals, who are +105 money line underdogs for today’s game. The total, meanwhile, is sitting at 6.5 runs.
Will Scherzer stop the bleeding after going 0-3 with a 6.43 ERA in five starts in August? Or will Wacha win his fifth straight decision and post his eighth consecutive quality start?
The Cardinals are 5-0 in Wacha’s last five starts as a favorite and 8-2 in his last 10 starts during Game 3 of a series. The Cards are also 21-6 in Wacha’s last 27 starts overall and 5-0 in his last five starts when he’s the favorite.
