There’s a few things I like to take into consideration before placing a bet in NASCAR. The first item I look at is past performance on the upcoming track, and similar tracks. Every track in NASCAR is a little different, but looking at how a driver has performed on similar tracks will definitely be helpful to your bankroll.
It’s also helpful to pay attention to qualifying results. The new qualifying format in NASCAR is more helpful this season to bettors, than in years past. The drivers race for several laps, then there is an elimination. The final round times set the racing order. This will definitely tell you what cars to look out for that week during the race.
I also find it helpful to look at the season as a whole when picking out a driver. Sometimes a driver is due for a break, if they have been finishing in the top 10, but have had issues out of their control keeping them out of contention such as blown tires, engine failure, etc, it can be worth considering those types of drivers.
Don’t go overboard on big long shots. Although there are plenty of drivers each race, there are probably only 4 or 5 drivers with a real shot of winning, and just as in other sports the odds makers typically aren’t too far off on the best bets. You should look at drivers who qualified in the top 10 first to help you narrow down your selections.
There is also a way to bet NASCAR that many may overlook and this is match ups. The odds to winning a matchup bet is much greater than selecting the winner of a race. The match up bet works the same as in golf one driver’s results Vs another driver’s results. For example, you could see Dale Jr. vs. Tony Stewart in a race pick the driver that finishes best and you win your bet. The same tips to pick out a winner of the race apply to picking the driver of a match up. The upcoming race this week is in Darlington for the Bojangles’ Southern 500, hopefully you can put this tips to use, and come away a winner this week in NASCAR.
