Is Virginia still a great bet in ACC?
LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – After losing to Maryland in their regular season finale, is Virginia still the best bet to win the ACC Tournament?
UVA ended their regular season #1 in the conference, but had an overtime loss at Maryland in their final game. This loss doesn’t change the Cavaliers from being the favorites to win the ACC tournament.
UVA has a lot of qualities you look for in championship contenders. The Cavaliers have great coaching, are defensive minded, play as a team, and rarely if ever do they get rattled. UVA could potentially face Maryland in the quarterfinals, but the Terrapins will be in for a different story this time around.
UVA having already wrapped up the #1 seed in the tourney had little to really play for in the game at Maryland, and still took the hyped up Terrapins to overtime. You could make the argument that UVA had a good schedule only having to play the other top teams in the ACC one time, but that could also be to their advantage as the other teams won’t be as familiar with this Cavalier squad.
UVA could potentially meet Duke in the finals, and I see that game being a battle as Coach K always has his teams well prepared for ACC tournament time.
No matter the outcome of the ACC tournament it’s always a must see in the college basketball world.
