Will Peyton repeat his performance?
LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – Peyton Manning has the best odds to throw for the most yards this season at 5/2. Is Manning the right choice for bettors?
Manning had a monster season last year where he threw for 5,477 yards with a record setting 55 touchdown passes. He also completed 68% of his passes while throwing a mere 10 interceptions. It’s tough to bet against Manning, but I just don’t expect those same numbers from him this season.
Manning and the Broncos will have a few more things going against them this season than they did a year ago. First off, the schedule isn’t as kind, as the Broncos will have to face the NFC West instead of the NFC East. Manning could name the score versus the NFC East, but the NFC West is loaded with strong defensive units.
There’s also a couple of key losses to the offensive side of the ball as both Eric Decker and Knowshon Moreno left via free agency. Wes Welker also isn’t quite the player he was once and with concussion issues he could miss some playing time this season. Manning will have a strong season as expected, but I don’t see him leading the league in passing yards this time around.
Drew Brees’ odds to throw for the most passing yards are currently set at 11/4 and he could definitely lead the NFL in that category this season. Brees threw for 5,162 yards last season and shows no signs of slowing down. He and the Saints are on a Super Bowl mission and to do that they will need all the help they can get out of Brees.
Brees will have his weapons Jimmy Graham and Marques Colston with the addition of rookie Brandin Cooks this offense could be even more potent. The schedule also plays into Brees’ hands as the Saints will play three road games in domes. Look for Brees to have another great season and to lead the league in passing yards.
