NFL Week 1 Predictions: Miami Dolphins vs. Seattle Seahawks 9/11/16

Dolphins vs. Seahawks Prediction

The Seahawks are a double-digit home favorite for their season-opener versus the Dolphins on Sunday at 4:05PM ET. Will they cover?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Seahawks are 10-point home favorites versus the Dolphins while the over/under sits at 44 points. Seattle was a 10.5-point favorite for most of the week but late Thursday the line was bet down to 10.

The Dolphins will be led by first-time head coach Adam Gase, who has the challenge of trying to get quarterback Ryan Tannehill to the next level of his development. Tannehill does have some talent around him thanks to running backs Arian Foster and Jay Ajayi, but 2015 first-rounder DeVante Parker continues to be slowed by injuries. At least Tannehill has underrated Jarvis Landry at his disposal in the passing game.

The Seahawks largely return the same core that led them to back-to-back Super Bowls, although Thomas Rawls and Christine Michael have the unevinable task of replacing the now-retired Marshawn Lynch. Russell Wilson, Doug Baldwin and Jimmy Graham return on offense, while the defense will once again be led by Bobby Wagner, Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor, Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril.

OUR PREDICTION: The Seahawks have never had a star-studded offensive line under Pete Carroll, but the O-line is still a concern heading into the new season. First-round pick Germain Ifedi is dealing with a high-ankle sprain, which is troubling considering Seattle’s offensive line has to deal with Ndamukong Suh, Cameron Wake and Mario Williams. If Miami can control the line of scrimmage for stretches on Sunday, the Dolphins should be able to hang within 10 points of the Seahawks and cover for bettors. Tannehill also has to take care of the football, but Gase got Jay Cutler’s turnover problems under control in Chicago last year so that shouldn’t be an issue for Miami’s signal-caller this Sunday.
