Preakness: 3 Sleepers to Watch
LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – Which horses could be sleepers to watch in today’s 2014 Preakness Stakes?
The Preakness is set go Saturday at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland with post time set at 6:18 PM ET. NBC is scheduled to begin coverage around 4:30PM ET and with that, let’s take a look at three sleepers to watch in this race.
Pablo Del Monte, with a payout of +2400 is definitely worth a look. Pablo Del Monte didn’t run in the Kentucky Derby because his team didn’t like starting in post 20. When researching this horse, you find some good results. He finished third in the Grade I Blue Grass in April with 2 Derby Top 10 finishers beating him out. He also finished 3rd in the Grade II Hutcheson last February.
General A Rod with a payout of +2000 is another horse worth a look. General A Rod finished 11th in the Kentucky Derby but he never really got his chance to move toward the rails. The Derby was the first time this horse didn’t show in his six-race career. General A Rod’s trainer Mike Maker, and Jockey Javier Castellano both know what it takes to win here. Maker found success with Charismatic in 1999 and Castellano rode Bernardini to a win here in 2006. General A Rod will be starting in post 2.
Social Inclusion is paying out +600 here at the Preakness, and is starting in post No. 8. Social Inclusion isn’t the most experienced horse in this race, but has raised eyebrows with a third place finish in the Grade I Wood Memorial in only his third career race. Social Inclusion’s trainer Manny Azpurua won over 3,500 race in his home country Venezuela and jockey Luis Contreras made a name for himself winning the Canadian Triple Crown in 2011 with three different horses.
