Mississippi State is listed anywhere from an 8 to 10-point road underdog this weekend as they face off versus Alabama, who was left out of the playoff picture earlier this week. Will the Crimson Tide come out with something to prove and cover the spread?
Alabama find themselves just outside of the playoff picture and will need to make a big statement in this big time SEC matchup. This line has really jumped as it opened with the Crimson Tide listed as 6.5-point favorites and is now listed as high as -10 in some spots. This game is right in Alabama’s wheelhouse and I expect a great team performance out of them.
The Crimson Tide are on a sweet 7-0 SU and ATS run versus SEC opponents when playing at home, plus they are 6-2 ATS in their last eight home games when listed as the favorite. Mississippi State hasn’t had much luck versus Alabama as they are 2-11 SU in their last 13 meetings versus the Crimson Tide. The Bulldogs also struggle as road underdogs as they are 2-10 SU in their last 12 games listed as road dogs.
Mississippi State may come in as the number one ranked team, but Alabama has that extra psychological edge here. The Tide has more or less dominated the Bulldogs in recent history as they have outscored them by a combined 134 points in the last six meetings. This is a situation Mississippi State doesn’t find themselves in that often, while big games like this is where the Crimson Tide shine. Look for the Tide to roll here. Lay the points.
