Tigers drop opener
The Detroit Tigers suffered a 3-2 loss to the Royals in Kansas City on Tuesday, their fifth loss in six games. Detroit is 24-39 on the season, 13-18 on the road and 33-26 with the under. Daniel Norris will be getting the start for Detroit tonight. He is 2-5 on the season with a 4.60 ERA.
The Tigers were held to just five runs and that kept them from hanging on to a 2-0 lead on Tuesday night. Nicholas Castellanos and Brandon Dixon each had a solo home run to make up the Detroit runs. Spencer Turnbull pitched six scoreless innings in his start, but the Detroit bullpen let him down. Victor Alcantara suffered the loss by blowing the save in the eighth.
Royals edge Tigers
The Royals were able to put an end to their 2-game losing streak on Tuesday with the 3-2 victory. They have won just two of their last 10 games. KC is 21-45 on the season, 13-22 at home and 32-30 with the over. Kansas City has Danny Duffy taking the mound today. He is 3-3 on the season with a 4.68 ERA.
The Royals rallied from a 2-0 deficit on Tuesday by scoring three runs over the seventh and eighth innings. Ryan O’Hearn got things started in the seventh with a solo home run while Jorge Soler had a RBI double in the eighth and Cheslor Cuthbert drove in the winning run soon after. Jake Junis pitched seven innings and allowed the two runs to get a no-decision. Scott Barlow got the win in relief with a hitless eighth while Ian Kennedy earned his fifth save of the year with a perfect ninth.
MLB Betting Trends
Detroit
The Tigers have won four of Turnbull’s last five starts, but they are just 4-13 in their last 17 games following a loss.
Kansas City
The Royals are just 1-5 in their last six home games and 1-6 in their last seven AL Central games.
Prediction:
Duffy has had two poor outings in his last two starts, but he has faced some decent lineups in the Red Sox and Rangers. Norris started off well, but has lost his last four decisions and given up multiple runs in seven straight starts. Detroit is without Niko Goodrum tonight, one of its more productive hitters from a lineup that is already a mess. The Tigers have poor hitting and a shaky bullpen. That just lines up for another loss in my book.
MLB Prediction: Kansas City Royals -145
