Pirates on six-game skid
The Pittsburgh Pirates are on a six-game losing streak following an 8-7 loss to the Braves on Wednesday night in 11 innings. The Pirates are 30-37 on the season, 17-19 on the road and 40-26 with the over. Pittsburgh has Joe Musgrove getting the start today. He is 4-6 on the season with a 4.40 ERA.
The Pirates had the hitting on Wednesday, but didn’t have the pitching, as they allowed six runs over the first three innings. Mitch Keller gave up the six runs in three innings on 10 hits but amazingly didn’t take a loss. The Pirates had to use six arms out of the bullpen, with Michael Feliz taking the loss by giving up the winning run in the 11th. At the plate, Joey Bell hit his 19th home run of the season and had his 61st RBI of the year. Starling Marte also homered for the Pirates.
Braves seek sweep
The Atlanta Braves have won the first three games of the series and are now on a six-game winning streak following a win over the Pirates on Wednesday. Atlanta is 39-29 overall, 19-15 at home and 37-28 with the over. The Braves have Julio Teheran on the mound today. He is 4-4 on the season with a 3.03 ERA.
Despite the early scoring surge, Atlanta had to rally to win on Thursday. Austin Riley homered in the ninth to force extra innings and Ozzie Albies had a walk-off double in the 11th to score Riley in the end. Riley finished the game with three hits and three RBI while Mike Sorokoa drove in two runs. Soroka was the starting pitcher. He went five innings and allowed five runs. Jacob Webb got the win by pitching a scoreless 10th and 11th.
MLB Betting Trends
Pittsburgh
The Pirates have lost nine of their last 12 Thursday games and 13 of their last 16 against a winning team.
Atlanta
The Braves have won five straight at home and 10 of their last 14 against NL Central opponents.
Prediction:
Musgrove’s last four starts have been pretty shaky, allowing 18 runs over 25.1 innings. Teheran has found a new stride, pitching 11 straight scoreless innings. He has allowed just one earned run or less in seven straight starts. I think he will do well against the Pirates today. Pittsburgh used a lot of arms last night, so their bullpen isn’t likely to be strong.
MLB Prediction: Atlanta Braves -150
