Suarez prevails in pitcher’s duel
Giants starting pitcher Andrew Suarez was outstanding last night as he allowed one earned run on seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks over six innings in a 2-1 victory. Brandon Crawford helped lead the offense as he was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Austin Slater finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs. Will Smith struck out two in a perfect ninth inning for his first save of the season.
Lamb drives in only run
D-backs third baseman Jake Lamb finished 1-for-3 as his RBI single in the sixth inning tied the score at 1-1 before San Francisco scored the eventual game-winning run in the seventh. Ketel Marte had a double and scored a run in four at-bats, while Chris Owings was 2-for-4. Andrew Chafin took the loss in relief as he allowed one earned run on one hit with one walk in one-third of an inning.
Dereck Rodriguez (2-1, 3.82 ERA) starts today for the Giants, while Arizona is going with Shelby Miller (0-1, 12.27).
MLB Betting Trends
San Francisco
The Giants are 8-18 in their last 26 road games. San Francisco is 3-9 in the last 12 meetings in Arizona.
Arizona
The Diamondbacks are 8-1 in their last nine games following a loss. Arizona is 7-2 in its last nine games overall.
Prediction:
Miller looked very rough in his first MLB start back from Tommy John Surgery and it will probably take a while for him to get his feel back. Rodriguez has been up-and-down so it’s a little difficult to trust him as well. After the offenses struggled yesterday, my bet is that they come alive today. Expect to see plenty of runs and for the total to hit the over.
