2012 AL & NL Cy Young Award Odds
(The Spread) – If the current odds have anything to say about the final results, than the Big Apple will be well represented when it comes to this year’s Cy Young awards.
Oddsmakers have installed New York Yankees’ ace CC Sabathia as a 3/1 favorite to win the 2012 American League Cy Young Award. The Detroit Tigers’ Justin Verlander has the next best odds at 9/4 while the Tampa Bay Rays’ David Price is 5/1. Chris Sale, the youngster for the Chicago White Sox, is 11/2, Yu Darvish of the Texas Rangers is 13/2 and the Rays’ Fernando Rodney is the current long shot at 12/1.
In the National League, New York Mets’ knuckleballer R.A. Dickey is a 3/2 favorite while the San Francisco Giants’ Matt Cain is 8/5. Phenom Stephen Strasburg of the Washington Nationals is 3/1, Cole Hamels of the Philadelphia Phillies is 7/1 and youngster Lance Lynn of the St. Louis Cardinals is currently 10/1 to win this year’s NL Cy Young.
Along with Price, Harrison and Darvish, Sabathia has nine wins to lead the American League, while Dickey’s 11 victories make him the outright leader in the National League. Hamels and Lynn each have 10 wins apiece while Cain has nine and is two starts removed from throwing the 22nd perfect game in Major League Baseball history.
Dickey is also leading the league in ERA with an unbelievable 2.00 mark, although Atlanta’s Brandon Beachy also has a 2.00 ERA but will miss the rest of the season due to Tommy John Surgery. It’s surprising that AL ERA leader Jered Weaver (2.40) doesn’t have Cy Young odds considering he also pitched a no-hitter on May 2 against the Twins.
