Indians 2012 MLB Season Odds
(The Spread) – While they don’t have as much firepower as some of their American League rivals, you can’t count the Cleveland Indians out this season.
According to oddsmakers the Indians are 60/1 to win the 2012 World Series and 30/1 to win the American League Pennant. They’re also 7/1 to win the American League Central Division and have an over/under of 79 for number of total wins in the regular season this year.
The Indians made a slew of acquisitions this winter, including first baseman Casey Kotchman, starter Derek Lowe and right-hander Jeremy Accardo. They also added third baseman Andy LaRoche, outfielder Felix Pie, right-hander Kevin Slowly and third baseman Ryan Rohlinger.

Outside of first baseman/DH Jim Thome, the Tribe didn’t have many key depatures this winter, unless you consider outfielder Kosuke Fukudome and second baseman Luis Valbuena as “key departures.”
OUTLOOK: The Indians have a nice, young core that features catcher Carlos Santana. If shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera can build off the season he had last year and second baseman Jason Kipnis takes another step in his development, this Cleveland lineup (which also features Kotchman, Travis Hafner and Shin-Soo Choo) isn’t that bad. If Ubaldo Jimenez can get back to the pitcher that he was in 2010 when he challenged for the NL Cy Young, the starting rotation is above average as well. That said, this team isn’t good enough to go toe-to-toe with the Tigers all season. Detroit has too much firepower and while Cleveland could make things interesting early on, the Tribe will likely fade to the middle of the pack at some point, just like it did last season. Still, this is a nice up-and-coming team that could challenge for a Wild Card spot if things break right.
