Rockies 2012 MLB Season Odds
(The Spread) – The Rockies’ offense is stacked but will their pitching allow them to contend in 2012.
According to oddsmakers the Rockies are 35/1 to win the 2012 World Series and 15/1 to win the National League Pennant this season. They’re also 5/1 to win the National League West Division and have an over/under of 81.5 for number of total regular season wins in 2012.
The Rockies spent just under $40 million this past winter in hopes of upgrading their roster. Their biggest signing came in the form of Michael Cuddyer, who signed a three-year, $31.5 million deal after playing 11 seasons with the Twins. The Rockies also signed catcher Ramon Hernandez to a two-year, $6.4 million contract and first baseman Jason Giambi to a one-year, $1 million deal.

The Rockies made a slew of trades this winter, acquiring Marco Scutaro (Red Sox), Jeremy Guthrie (Orioles), Tyler Colvin (Cubs), Tyler Chatwood (Angels) and Chad Tracy (Rangers). Their notable losses were Chris Iannetta, Ryan Spilborghs, Huston Street, Mark Ellis, Ian Stewart, Jason Hammel, Kevin Millwood, Aaron Cook, Seth Smith and Kevin Kouzmanoff.
OUTLOOK: There’s a lot to love about Colorado and there’s a lot to hate. First the love: the Rockies are going to score a ton of runs again this year. If Dexter Fowler, Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki can stay healthy, this club’s offense could be a juggernaut. The additions of Scutaro, Cuddyer and Hernandez also fill out the Rockies’ roster nicely and don’t forget that Todd Helton will once again be in the middle of their lineup, hitting around .280. But the defense is shaky and the starting pitching could be a disaster. The Rockies could potentially have three pitchers in their starting rotation post ERAs just south of 5.0 so they better hit well or else it’s going to be a long season. That said, you can never count this team out because hitting in that ball park, Colorado has been known to get red-hot at the right time. We’ll just have to see if their pitching can hold up.
