Dodgers 2012 MLB Season Odds
(The Spread) – With solid play and a little bit of luck, the Los Angeles Dodgers could be one of the sleepers in the National League this season.
According to oddsmakers the Dodgers are 40/1 to win the World Series and 17/1 to win the National League Pennant. They’re also 7/1 to win the National League West Division and have an over/under of 81 for number of total wins in the regular season this year.
The Dodgers made a couple of moves this offseason to beef up their pitching depth, including signing free agents Chris Capuano and Aaron Harang, while also adding John Grabow and Jamey Wright on minor league deals. The club also signed free agents Jerry Hairston Jr., Adam Kennedy, Matt Treanor, Mark Ellis and Josh Bard.

Of their losses, Casey Blake, Jonathan Broxton, Hiroki Kuroda, Vicente Padilla, Jamey Carroll and Hong-Chih Kuo are the team’s notable departures. The Dodgers also parted ways with Jon Garland, Rod Barajas and Dana Eveland.
OUTLOOK: This team isn’t as bad as some may suggest, or at least on paper, anyways. Matt Kemp and Clayton Kershaw are studs, while Andre Ethier and Chad Billingsley have the talent to make big contributions as well. (They’re just highly inconsistent.) The Dodgers also have a speedster at the top of their lineup in Dee Gordon and Ted Lilly is still an underrated starter at this point in his career. That said, in order this club to contend in 2012, guys like James Loney, Mark Ellis and Juan Uribe will have to overachieve a bit. The Diamondbacks and especially the Giants have better pitching so the Dodgers will need to rely on more than just Kemp and Kershaw to be competitive. But make no mistake: This isn’t the Astros or Mariners. The Dodgers have enough talent to make things interesting in the division and perhaps earn a postseason berth if things break their way.
