Angels 2012 MLB Season Odds
(The Spread) – After landing two of the biggest names on the free agent market, the Los Angeles Angels are primed to head back to the postseason.
According to odddsmakers the Angels are 7/1 to win the 2012 World Series and 7/2 to win the American League Pennant. They’re also 1/25 to win the American League West and have an over/under of 92.5 for number of total wins in the regular season.
In the first few hours after the Winter Meetings had started, the Angels signed slugger Albert Pujols to a massive ten-year, $246,841,811 million contract. Then, after acquiring the best hitter on the market, they landed the top pitcher in C.J. Wilson by signing him to a five-year, $77.5 million deal. It’s hard to argue that any club had a better free agency than the Halos.

The Angels also signed Howie Kendrick to a four-year, $33.5 million extension and reached minor league deals with Jorge Cantu, Jason Isringhausen, and Ryan Langerhans. On the trade front, they acquired Chris Iannetta from the Rockies in exchange for Tyler Chatwood, and sent Jeff Mathis to the Blue Jays for pitcher Brad Mills.
OUTLOOK: There’s little doubt that the Angels will contend for a postseason berth this season, if not the World Series. Their starting rotation is outstanding and their 10th-best offense just received an upgrade of the century. Pujols will make guys like Kendrick, Torii Hunter and Vernon Wells better around him, just like he did for his former teammates in St. Louis. And if the Halos can just reach the postseason, Wilson, Jered Weaver, Dan Haren and Ervin Santana will be a tough out in a five-game series. Don’t forget that Jerome Williams is also coming off a season of resurrection of sorts, so assuming everyone stays healthy the Angels have the talent to go toe-to-toe with the likes of the Tigers and Yankees. This will be a fun team to watch this season.
