Twins 2012 MLB Season Odds
(The Spread) – While the Twins should be better than they were a year ago, do they have enough firepower to compete with the top teams in the American League?
According to oddsmakes the Twins are 100/1 to win the 2012 World Series and 50/1 to win the American League Pennant this year. They’re also 15/1 to win the American League Central Division and have an over/under of 72.5 for number of total wins during the regular season.
Perhaps the biggest addition the Twins made to their roster this offseason was signing catcher Ryan Doumit, formerly of the Pittsburgh Pirates. They also added outfielder Josh Willingham, pitcher Jason Marquis, third baseman Sean Burroughs, shortstop Jamey Carroll and reliever Joel Zumaya.

The Twins took a hit in the outfield this winter when Michael Cuddyer and Jason Kubel both signed with other teams. Starter Kevin Slowey is also gone, as is long-time closer Joe Nathan.
OUTLOOK: Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau hold the key to whether or not the Twins will succeed. If they can both stay healthy, then Minnesota will find a way to compete. Carroll, Willingham and Doumit all bring something different to the table and should help fill out the lineup. That said, losing Cuddyer and Kubel hurt so if Mauer and Morneau can’t stay healthy then it’ll be another long season in Minnesota. In fact, it might be a long season regardless of whether or not Mauer and Morneau can stay in the lineup because the starting rotation isn’t very good. It’s not that big of a stretch to suggest that none of Minnesota’s starters will crack double digits in wins this year. Francisco Liriano certainly has the talent to do so, but injuries and inconsistency has derailed his once promising career. And while Carl Pavano did win 17 games in 2010, he reverted back to his norm last year when he posted a 9-13 record with a 4.30 ERA. This isn’t a bad team by any means but the Twins would need a lot to fall into place in order to compete with the stacked Tigers in the AL Central.
