2012 MLB All-Star Game Odds
KANSAS CITY, MO (The Spread) – Despite the National League’s recent run of success in the Midsummer Classic, the American League is favored in the 2012 MLB All-Star Game.
Oddsmakers have installed the American League as a –131 money line favorite over the National League, which is +123 on the ML. The over/under total for tonight’s game is currently sitting at 8.5 runs. First pitch is set for 8:00PM ET.
The National League has won the last two All-Star Games, including a 5-1 victory over the American League last season at Chase Field in Phoenix. But before 2010 when the National League won 3-1 in Anaheim, the American League had won seven All-Star Games in a row and 12 of the previous 13 contests with the only exception being a tie in 2002.

Tonight’s starters will be Matt Cain of the National League and Justin Verlander of the American League. Cain is 9-3 with a 2.62 ERA while Verlander is 2-5 with a 2.58 ERA. Cain pitched a perfect game against the Houston Astros on June 13 but has somewhat struggled in his four starts since then. The Giants have lost the last three times he’s pitched and his ERA has gone from 2.18 following the perfect game to 2.62.
The last two MLB All-Star Games have fallen under the total. The 2010 total sat at 8.5 and the combined score only produced four runs, while the 2011 total was set at 8 and the two teams combined for just six runs. Despite the amount of quality hitters are in these games, the pitching has prevailed the last two years.
