Yankees 2012 MLB Season Odds
(The Spread) – The New York Yankees’ roster continues to age but they’re once again loaded with talent and will challenge for a postseason berth in 2012.
According to odds makers the Yankees are 7/1 to win the 2012 World Series and 7/2 to win the American League Pennant. They’re also -125 to win the American League East Division and have an over/under of 93.5 for total number of wins in the regular season.
The Yankees made a pair of moves to beef up their starting rotation this past winter, including trading for Michael Pineda and signing Hiroki Kuroda. Pineda will likely miss the first month of the season with shoulder inflammation but once he’s healthy, he’ll be a solid addition to the Bombers’ rotation.

In terms of departures, the Yankees had to part with one of their top prospects in catcher Jesus Montero in the Pineda trade, and also dealt A.J. Burnett to the Pirates. Jorge Posada also retired and Bartolo Colon wasn’t retained.
OUTLOOK: The Yankees are once again stacked offensively thanks to Robinson Cano, Mark Teixeira, Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Curtis Granderson and Russell Martin. They also added some pop in Raul Ibanez (formerly of the Phillies) and they still have Brett Gardner for speed and Nick Swisher (a solid role player). It’s their pitching that will once again make or break them. CC Sabathia is a stud at the top of their rotation and Kuroda is an underrated starter. But Pineda being lost for the first month of the season is a blow and Phil Hughes needs to be more consistent. That said, while the Red Sox and Rays will once again challenge the Bombers in the AL East, the Yankees will be competitive until the end. They just have too much talent not to make the postseason. The question is whether they have enough to beat the Tigers, Rangers or Angels when the postseason arrives.
