According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Fielder is a 7/2 favorite to win this year’s Derby, which will take place next week at Citi Field in New York. Baltimore first baseman Chris Davis, meanwhile, has the next best odds to win at 15/4 and Nationals’ young superstar Bryce Harper is currently 5/1.
Continuing with the odds, A’s outfielder Yoenis Cespedes and Yankees’ second baseman Robinson Cano are both 11/2, respectively, while Mets’ third baseman David Wright and Rockies’ outfielder Carlos Gonzalez are both 15/2, respectively. Gonzalez’s teammate Michael Cuddyer has the longest odds to win at 9/1.
Davis currently leads the Majors with 33 home runs while Gonzalez has 24 to lead the National League. Cano has 20 home runs through Tuesday’s action and Fielder is five behind that pace at 15. In the National League, Cuddyer has 15 dingers while Wright has 13.
Wright obviously has the most home runs at Citi Field over the course of his career, as he’s hit 37 long balls at his home park. The participant with the next-most home runs at Citi Field is Harper, who has hit three dingers at the venue. No other player has more than two homers.
Fielder is the current Home Run Derby champ after winning in 2012 and also won the event in 2009. The only other participant in this year’s Derby that has won the event in previous years is Cano, who won in 2011.
The 2013 Home Run Derby will take place on Monday, July 15, while the 2013 MLB All-Star Game will be held on Tuesday, July 16.
