Updated Home Run Derby Odds
NEW YORK, NY (The Spread) – The 2013 Home Run Derby is tonight at Citi Field and as it stands, Chris Davis is the current favorite to win the event.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Davis is a 11/4 favorite to win tonight’s Home Run Derby. Prince Fielder of the Tigers has the next-best odds at 3/1 while Bryce Harper of the Nationals is 5/1. Pedro Alvarez of the Pirates and Yoenis Cespedes are both 6/1, respectively, to outlast the field at Citi Field.
Continuing with the odds, Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano is 13/2, Mets third baseman David Wright is 10/1 and Rockies outfielder Michael Cuddyer has the worst odds at 14/1. Cuddyer’s teammate Carlos Gonzalez recently withdrew for the Home Run Derby while citing a recent finger injury. (Interesting enough, on the same day he withdrew from the Dery he also took Dodgers reliever Brandon League deep at Dodger Stadium.)
Fielder opened as the Home Run Derby favorite a week ago with 7/2 odds, while Davis had the next-best odds at 15/4. Harper opened with 5/1 odds, Cespedes and Cano were both 11/2, respectively, while Wright and CarGo were 15/2, respectively. Cuddyer’s odds were only slightly better than they are now at 9/1.
Davis currently leads Major League Baseball with 37 home runs and Cabrera is second with 30 for the Tigers. Alvarez has the most home runs out of the National League contenders tonight with 24, replacing Gonzalez, who has 25. Cano ended the first half with 21 dingers, Fielder has “only” 16 and Cespedes has 15. For the National League, Wright and Harper both have 13 homes, respectively.
