According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Wainwright is 3/1 to win this year’s NL Cy Young Award, while Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers is listed right behind him at 4/1. Arizona’s Patrick Corbin is 11/2, meanwhile, while Jordan Zimmerman of the Nationals and Matt Harvey of the Mets are both 15/2, respectively.
Cliff Lee of the Phillies has 9/1 odds to win the 2013 Cy Young Award while Jeff Locke of the Pirates is 12/1. Lance Lynn of the Cardinals is 18/1, while Craig Krimbrel of the Braves, Madison Bumgarner of the Giants, Mike Minor of Atlanta, Shelby Miller of St. Louis and Stephen Strasburg of Washington are all 20/1, respectively. Pittsburgh closer Jason Grilli is also 25/1 and Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu has the longest odds to win this year’s Cy Young award at 50/1.
Wainwright and Zimmermann currently have the most wins among National League starters with 12 apiece, while Corbin and Lynn each have 11 victories. Kershaw, meanwhile, has a ridiculous 1.98 ERA and Locke’s 2.15 mark is impressive, too. Harvey, Wainwright and Zimmermann all have a 2.58 ERA or lower.
Of the pitchers with odds to win this year’s Cy Young, only Kershaw has won the award in a previous season, claiming the honor in 2011 after winning 21 games with the Dodgers. Tim Lincecum of the Giants is the last two win back-to-back Cy Young awards after accomplishing the feat in 2008 and 2009, and former Mets pitcher and current Blue Jays starter R.A. Dickey is the defending Cy Young award winner after taking home the honor in 2012.
