AL Wild Card Game Odds
KANSAS CITY, MO (TheSpread) – The 2014 MLB Playoffs gets started tonight with the AL Wild Card Game when the Kansas City Royals host the Oakland Athletics at 8:07PM ET.
The Royals will be sending their ace, James Shields, on the mound to face Jon Lester, the ace of the Athletics. According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, this game is even, as each team is getting odds of -110 to prevail tonight. The over/under total for the game has been set at 6.5 runs.
The Royals went 89-73 this season and 42-39 at home while Oakland was 88-74 overall and 40-41 on the road. Shields went 14-8 this season for Kansas City, racking up 180 strikeouts to 44 walks while having an ERA of 3.21 and a WHIP of 1.18. Lester only pitched in 11 games for the Athletics this year, going 6-4 with 71 strikeouts to 16 walks. Lester’s ERA is 2.35 while his WHIP is 1.07.
These two teams met seven times during the regular season, with Kansas City winning five of the seven meetings. These two met all seven times within a two-week span in the month of August. Shields pitched in two of the wins for the Royals while Lester pitched in both wins for the Athletics. These two have hit the under in four of their seven meetings this year.
