Updated NL Pennant Odds
LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – As we head into tonight’s National League wild card game, let’s take a look at the updated pennant odds for 2014.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Dodgers are 2/1 favorites to win the National League Pennant this year, while the Nationals are 21/10 and the Cardinals are 4/1. The two current long shots are the two teams that will play tonight in the wild card game, as the Giants are 13/2 and the Pirates are 7/1 to win this year’s pennant.
The Nationals finished with the best record in the National League this year a 96-66 while the Dodgers finished at 94-68. The Cardinals, who were in a battle all season long with the Brewers and, at least down the stretch, the Pirates, finished at 90-72. The Pirates and Giants both wrapped up the regular season with 88 wins apiece, although Pittsburgh will host tonight’s wild card game due to head-to-head meetings.
The Dodgers boast the best 1-2 punch in baseball thanks to Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke, while the Nationals argubably have the most balanced roster thanks to a stacked pitching staff and solid lineup. The Cardinals also have a solid rotation featuring ace Adam Wainwright and veterans Lance Lynn and John Lackey, while Shelby Miller is one of their promising young talents.
The Giants do have a solid ace in Madison Bumgarner but they’ve been ravaged by injuries in the second half, while the Pirates have been hot but won’t have Gerritt Cole or Francisco Liriano on the hill tonight when they host the Giants. Instead, it’ll be Edinson Volquez, who has been great for the Bucs but was a disaster in his lone postseason appearance.
2014 National League Pennant Odds to Win
Los Angeles Dodgers 2/1
Washington Nationals 21/10
St. Louis Cardinals 4/1
San Francisco Giants 13/2
Pittsburgh Pirates 7/1
