Updated 2014 World Series Odds
LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – The updated World Series odds have been released for this season and the two Los Angeles teams sit atop the contender heap.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Angels and Dodgers are both 5/1 co-favorites to win the 2014 World Series heading into the MLB postseason. The Nationals, who finished with the best record in the National League this season, have comparable odds at 11/2 while the Tigers are 6/1 and the Orioles are 13/2. NL Central champion St. Louis is now 8/1 to win the World Series.
As for the four teams that will participate in the wild card games over the next two nights, the A’s have the best record to win the World Series among that group. Despite slumping badly down the stretch and parting with their once dominant lead over the Angels in the AL West, Oakland is now 11/1 to win this year’s MLB championship.
Meanwhile, the A’s bay area rivals the Giants are now 12/1 to win the World Series while the team that they’re playing on Wednesday night, the Pirates, are 14/1. The Royals, who clinched a playoff spot for the first time since winning the World Series in 1985, are the current title long shots at 16/1. James Shields will face Jon Lester on Tuesday in the AL wild card game, while the Giants will send ace Madison Bumgarner to the hill versus the Pirates’ Edinson Volquez.
The only matchups that are currently set in the Divisional Round is the Cardinals vs. the Dodgers and the Tigers vs. the Orioles. Whoever wins between the Royals and A’s will advance to play the Angels, while the winner of the Giants-Pirates game on Wednesday will advance to the NLDS vs. the Nationals.
