The Mets put the Cubs on the brink of elimination last night with a 5-2 win in Chicago. New York racked up a total of 11 hits and the Cubs also had an error to keep them from getting a win in the series. Jacob deGrom went seven innings and allowed just four hits and two runs with seven strikeouts to get the win. Kyle Hendricks lasted only four innings and allowed five hits with two runs. Travis Wood then gave up another two runs in relief. Daniel Murphy continued his hot streak, hitting a home run for the fifth straight postseason game. He finished with two hits while David Wright and Yoenis Cespedes each had three hits for the Mets.
