Updated 2020 World Series Betting Odds
The New York Yankees remain the favorites to win the 2020 World Series following a hectic offseason, but what other teams are in the mix and who are the biggest long shots on the board?
The Favorite: New York Yankees 11/4
The Yankees were always considered one of the favorites to win the World Series because of their stacked offense, but then they made the biggest splash in free agency and became the clear favorite. The Yankees signed former Astros starter Gerrit Cole to a nine-year, $324 million contract and immediately addressed the biggest need heading into 2020. Cole joins a rotation that also features James Paxton, Masahiro Tanaka, Luis Severio and J.A. Happ, although Jordan Montgomery could factor into the equation at some point. The strength of the Bronx Bombers remains their offense, however, as DJ LeMahieu, Aaron Judge, Gleyber Torres and Giancarlo Stanton form the heart of the order, with Gary Sanchez following in the fifth spot. This team is stacked.
The Challengers: Houston Astros (8/1); Los Angeles Dodgers (8/1)
While they lost Cole and have been implicated in a cheating scandal that MLB is currently investigating, the Astros have the next-best odds to win next year’s World Series title at 8/1. The Dodgers have those same 8/1 odds, although they remain linked to trade candidates like Francisco Lindor (Indians) and Nolan Arenado (Rockies). Even without adding anyone to their lineup, their offense is formidable with Max Muncy, Justin Turner and Cody Bellinger sitting in the heart of the order. Houston boasts similar talent in George Springer, Jose Altuve, Michael Brantley and Alex Bregman. It remains to be seen how much their starting rotation takes a hit without Cole.
Other Contenders
The Braves are 15/1, followed by the Phillies and Cardinals at 18/1, respectively. The Red Sox are currently 20/1 to win the World Series, although if they wind up trading Mookie Betts like they’re rumored to be, then their odds would take a significant hit. The Mets and defending World Series champion Nationals are also 20/1, followed by the Reds at 25/1.
With Josh Donaldson, Marcell Ozuna and Nicholas Castellanos still available in free agency, these odds are likely to change again before pitchers and catchers report in a little over 30 days. That said, below is a complete list of 2020 World Series odds as of this writing.
