Cards lose Reyes, WS Odds Unchanged
Earlier this week the Cardinals lost phenom Alex Reyes to season-ending Tommy John surgery but their World Series odds remain unaffected.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Cardinals remain 25/1 to win the 2017 World Series, which is where they were listed before Reyes’ injury. They also remain 12/1 to win the National League Pennant this upcoming season.

Reyes wasn’t assured of a spot in the St. Louis’ starting rotation but he figured to be a key contributor in 2017. The youngster registered a 1.57 ERA with 52 strikeouts over his first 46 major league innings in 2016. While his innings would have been limited somewhat, the Cards were likely counting on him to play a significant role in their postseason hopes down the stretch.
The fifth and final spot in the Cardinals’ rotation is now Michael Wacha’s to lose. The former first-round pick has had a once promising career sidetracked by three injury-riddled seasons. He posted a 5.09 ERA over 27 games (24 starts) last season for the Cardinals and if he struggles in spring training, Trevor Rosenthal or Luke Weaver could earn a spot in the rotation out of camp.

Carlos Martinez, Adam Wainwright, Lance Lynn and Mike Leake will comprise the rest of the rotation. Lynn is coming off his own Tommy John surgery while Wainwright put together one of the worst seasons of his career in 2016. Leake also struggled after signing a five-year, $80 million contract last offseason.
