He surrendered two runs (one earned) on four hits with nine strikeouts and no walks over six innings in his last start, an 8-3 home victory over the Rangers. Oakland comes in at 58-76 and 21-45 on the road, while Seattle is 67-68 and 35-32 at home. The Mariners have won seven of the last 10 meetings and the over-under is 5-5 in those games.
Friday’s game saw the Mariners hold on for a 3-2 victory. Mike Zunino led the way as he was 2-for-3 with a home run, while Mitch Haniger went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Mike Leake gave up two earned runs over seven innings to get the win in his first start for Seattle. Edwin Diaz picked up his 31st save. Sean Manaea allowed three earned runs over 6 2/3 innings to take the loss. Matt Joyce was 3-for-4 and scored a run.
Although the Athletics have been truly dreadful on the road this year, they get a juicy matchup here against Gallardo. The Mariners are in desperate need for wins and Oakland would love to play a spoiler. Cotton seems to have figured some things out in his last two quality starts. Go with the Athletics.
