Mike Montgomery (3-6, 3.64 ERA) draws the start for Chicago, while the Reds counter with Asher Wojciechowski (3-2, 5.36). Montgomery was fantastic versus the Reds on August 17, throwing 4 1/3 shutout innings in a 13-10 loss. He has a 1.30 WHIP, appearing in 35 games with eight starts. He has a 3.60 road ERA over 45 innings. Wojciechowski has a 1.25 WHIP, but has struggled with giving up home runs as he has allowed 12 long balls over 50 1/3 innings. He has a good strikeout rate with 53 over 50 1/3 innings. Wojciechowski has a 3.41 home ERA over 31 2/3 innings.

The Cubs come in with a 67-57 record and are 33-29 on the road, while the Reds are 53-73 and 29-32 at home. Chicago has won six of the last 10 matchups including Tuesday’s 13-9 game. The total has gone over in six of the games.

Chicago scored 13 runs Tuesday without the benefit of a home run. After falling behind 3-0 and 6-3, the Cubs scored 10 runs between the sixth and eighth innings to take control. Anthony Rizzo was 2-for-3 with a double, three runs, two RBIs and a walk to lead the way. Jason Heyward went 3-for-5 with a run and two RBIs. Alex Avila was 2-for-3 with two runs, an RBI and two walks. Javier Baez was 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs. Hector Rondon earned the win in relief. Eugenio Suarez hit a pair of home runs, scored three runs and drove in five to pace the Reds. Scooter Gennett and Jesse Winker both homered as well. Billy Hamilton was 2-for-4 with a run, a walk and his 52nd stolen base. Wandy Peralta took the loss in relief.

Bet on Cubs vs. Reds

After the last couple games between these two squads being offensive explosions, it’s time for a little more calm. Montgomery has been a solid option for the Cubs this year and recently baffled the Reds. As for Wojciechowski, his peripherals are better than the actual numbers and if he can cut down on the home runs allowed he’ll be effective. He was bombed by Chicago at Wrigley Field and certainly learned a thing or two that day.
