Cobb holds a 1.21 WHIP with 119 strikeouts over 168 innings. He gave up one earned run on four hits with five strikeouts and three walks over five innings in a 4-1 win at the Red Sox his last start.
Boston comes in with an 84-63 record and is 38-35 on the road, while Tampa Bay is 72-76 overall and 37-37 at home. The Red Sox have won six of the last 10 meetings and the total has gone over six times.
On Friday night, Boston opened the series with a marathon 13-6 victory in 15 innings. After each team scored a run in the 14th, the Red Sox busted it open with a seven-run 15th to put it away. Xander Bogaerts was 4-for-7 with a walk, two runs and two RBIs from the top of the lineup. Andrew Benintendi was 2-for-8 with two RBIs. Mookie Betts went 3-for-8 with a double and a run. Mitch Moreland finished 3-for-7 with a home run, a walk and three runs. Rafael Devers was 1-for-6 with two walks, two runs and an RBI. Deven Merrero was 2-for-4 off the bench with a double, a run and two RBIs. Sandy Leon went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jackie Bradley Jr. was 2-for-6 with a walk and a run. Brandon Workman picked up the win in relief. Kevin Kiermaier was 2-for-6 with a home run, a walk and two runs for the Rays. Evan Longoria was 3-for-7 with an RBI. Wilson Ramos was 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBIs. Corey Dickerson was 2-for-4 with a walk off the bench. Austin Pruitt suffered the loss in defeat.
Both teams will be a little exhausted after the game Friday took over six hours to complete. Cobb has been the more consistent pitcher this season, although the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner Porcello has dealt with a lot of bad luck. We’ll take the Rays here as they’ll want a measure of revenge after dropping such a long game less than 24 hours before.
