Braves to salvage last game vs. D-backs?
Two extremely frustrated squads meet up at Turner Field this afternoon. One team, however, is beginning to show signs of life that most outsiders expected all along.
The Diamondbacks shoot to win three straight for the first time since mid-April in a 1:35 p.m. ET matchup against the Braves. Oddsmakers at online sports book BetDSI favor the visitors. The over/under, meanwhile, comes in at 8.5.
Patrick Corbin takes the ball for manager Chip Hale shortly. The lefty continues to search for the form he flashed prior to undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2014. His most recent outing featured marginally better results, but erratic command finds Corbin at 1-3 with a 4.91 ERA through five turns.
As for Atlanta, it simply may not have the horses to make a sizable dent against Arizona’s hurler. Off to the worst start in franchise history dating to 1900, the Braves rank last in the majors with a .224 batting average. They’ve scored 2.3 runs per contest while dropping 13 of 16.

One bright spot for skipper Fredi Gonzalez: Freddie Freeman’s heating up again. After an overwhelmingly disappointing April, the first baseman’s raking at a .425 clip with three homers and four doubles in the past 11. He actually boasts more than 50 percent of the Braves’ taters on the campaign.
Even though Corbin’s up-and-down pattern yields some reason for optimism, Atlanta remains MLB’s laughingstock for a variety of reasons. Moreover, the D-backs’ lineup seems to be coming along nicely. Look for Paul Goldschmidt, Jean Segura and the white-hot Brandon Drury to come through again in this spot.
